Larry West

Larry West is a Senior Associate with BB&T-John Burnham Insurance Services; San Diego’s oldest insurance brokerage and now the 7th largest broker in the world. West is responsible for Burnham’s alternative risk program as well as leadership in Burnham’s non-profit and construction divisions. In addition to broker responsibilities, he serves on the Burnham Way charitable committee. Larry began his insurance career over 23 years ago, working for only three organizations and was promoted upward with each move. He credits his involvement as a YWCA Board Member to his parents, who instilled in him by their examples a compassion for others and a willingness to serve the community.

“My folks had a natural ability to communicate and empathize, combined with a tremendous work ethic and a desire to put others first. For years, I watched my father deal with customers in his grocery store and always hoped to be like him. Treating both customers and employees with respect was very important to him.” says Larry. “The YWCA reflects those values and I am proud to support their efforts to empower women, children, and families.”

West was born a San Diegan, moving to Texas as a small child and enjoyed a small town upbringing. The family relocated back to San Diego years later. West attended both Southwestern College and Trinity University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree while working full time and starting on the football team.
