“First it is necessary to stand on your own two feet. But the minute a man finds himself in that position, the next thing he should do is reach out his arms.”
-Kristin Hunter
Thank you to the following community partners for their unwavering commitment to the women, children and families we serve:
Cox Communications has been a longtime supporter of the YWCA of San Diego County. They recently produced two Public Service Announcements to support the work that the YWCA is doing to serve women and children. The most recent PSA was a lot of fun and featured distinguished guests including San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.

The Story of Supporting the YWCA
In 2010, Michelle Bergquist, CEO & Co-Founder of Connected Women of Influence (CWI), attended the TWIN event hosted by the YWCA of San Diego. According to Michelle, “I was so touched and moved by Mary Murphy’s personal story of overcoming domestic violence and abuse, I was motivated to find out more about the YWCA and their scope of services.” After the TWIN event, Michelle researched the programs of the YWCA and spoke with Carol Ann Chambers, Development Manager. In early 2011, Michelle invited the YWCA of San Diego to be the beneficiary of funds raised at an event celebrating Women’s History Month. Sponsored by Connected Women of Influence, the 2nd Annual Business Women’s Mega Mixer raised almost $11,000 for the YWCA. According to Michelle, “It was so inspiring to see the reaction when we told Heather and Carol Ann the amount of money we raised from our annual event! It felt incredible!”
Compelled to do more, Michelle approached the Co-Founders of Connected Women of Influence and in a bold move, made the decision this year to adopt and support the YWCA. After talking with Heather Finlay and Carol Ann Chambers, and learning of the financial impact the state of the economy had taken on their fundraising efforts, Connected Women of Influence made the decision to give the YWCA a longer term commitment for support. According to Michelle, “We were looking for a way to give back in our membership organization. We have such amazing members, supporters and sponsors, but our organization was missing something, and supporting the YWCA just seemed like the right thing to do at a most needed time.” Beginning in late 2011 and through 2013, Connected Women of Influence has officially adopted the YWCA of San Diego as the nonprofit of choice to provide support, services and a commitment to raising funds over a two-year period. According to Michelle, “We’re excited about the activities and ideas we’re creating to support the YWCA next year and I look forward to sharing our results in 2012.”
