Non-Paid Law Clerk Internship
The YWCA legal services program provides family law services (restraining orders, divorces, paternity, child custody/visitation and child support) and direct representation to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This position provides extensive hands-on client experience.
Date of service: Year round
Time commitment: 10-20 hours per week
Pay: Volunteer; course credit (if student is eligible)
Qualifications: Interest in family law and advocacy or public interest. Foreign language skills are plus. Comfortable working with clients who are experiencing trauma and emotional events.
- Screen and interview clients at legal clinics
- Prepare paperwork
- Assist attorneys with direct representation
- Accompany clients to court
- File court paperwork
- Answer phone calls
- Provide client referrals
Requirements: Intern must pass Livescan fingerprints and TB test prior to first shift.
