Holiday Campaign 2019

Holiday Campaign 2019

As we approach 2020, we celebrate the remarkable journey of the people we serve in our domestic violence and homelessness programs. Their stories of bravery, strength and tenacity against all odds are powerful reminders of the impact we can have together.

Your support this holiday season will provide a critical lifeline to individuals and families escaping domestic violence and homelessness. Together, we can strengthen our community and provide lasting freedom from violence and abuse.

Celine’s Story2019 Holiday Campaign

Celine overcame significant hurdles to bring her family to safety. She and her young children suffered years of physical, psychological, and emotional abuse before coming to our Vi McKinney Becky’s House® Shelter. When her abuser tried to strangle her daughter, Celine knew they had to escape. She fled without a support network or financial resources and didn’t know if they could survive on their own.

With guidance from our domestic violence team, Celine worked through custody and immigration legal challenges, counseling to help them heal, and learning a new language and culture. Her children found comfort in safe housing and school activities. Soon thereafter, Celine enrolled in nursing school and saved enough income to move into their own apartment. She now eagerly awaits approval of her work visa. Her children are thriving again and she is determined to start her new career and strengthen her family.

“I am so grateful for YWCA. Without your support, I wouldn’t have been able to leave and start over. You helped me protect my children and learn how to provide for them on my own. I know now that I am strong and more than capable of taking care of my family and giving them a better future.”

Will you join us this holiday season and give safer and brighter futures to survivors like Celine and her children?
